The First United Pentecostal Church of Mandeville has been in existence for over forty years, and today we can say as Samuel did in I Samuel 7:12, “…Hitherto hath the Lord helped us”
We seek to be exceptional in all we do, empowered and directed by the Holy Spirit. As such, our mission is to go into Mandeville and its environs, leading souls of all ages to Jesus Christ and developing them into effective witnesses for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Vision Statement
A place of Reconciliation, Transformation and Hope.
Our Purpose
To engage and ultimately lead lost souls to Jesus Christ; help them to discover and fulfil their divine purpose while preparing and anticipating the blessed hope of Christ’s return in the rapture.
Our Belief
The basic and fundamental belief /doctrine of this organization shall be the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion and the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remissions of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
We shall endeavour to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith at the same time admonishing all brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body.
We believe the Bible to be inspired of God, the infallible Word of God. “All scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (II Timothy 3:16).
The Bible is the only God-given authority that man possess; therefore, all doctrine, faith, hope, and all instruction for the church must be based upon, and harmonize with, the Bible. It is to be read and studied by all men everywhere, and can only be clearly understood by those who are anointed by the Holy Spirit (I John 2:27). “No prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” II Peter 1:20-21)
History of the Church
The Church Comes to Mandeville, Manchester!
The town of Mandeville had long been without sufficient Pentecostal Witnesses. Being the centre of the Bauxite Industry of Jamaica, several of the world’s largest alumina companies hadmining and refining plants in areas surrounding Mandeville. However, yet, the church had not been fully established in the city.
It was through the Alumina Industry, however, that the Haygood’s came to Jamaica. Brother Haygood was employed by the Alpart Alumina Company. Although they did not come as ministers, they felt a burden for the people of Mandeville. They opened their home and began holding Sunday school.
During the months of April to September of 1970, God appeared to start the wheels of revival for Mandeville. The Haygood’s son and daughter-in-law, Bro. and Sis. Paul Haygood came to visit their parents. During their stay, Bro Paul Haygood(son) was privileged to baptize the first candidate in Jesus’ Name. A couple weeks later, another was ready for baptism. That person was taken to Kingston, (Wildman Street) to be baptized, and before persons could be baptized God marvelously filled such a one with the Holy Ghost.
In the meantime, Brother and Sister Paul Haygood decided to make plans to come back and begin a month of revival. The month of November was set for revival in Mandeville.
On the 24th of October 1970, Bishop P.V. Reynolds and a few brethren from the Caribbean Bible Institute (C.B.I) (including then young student, Bro. O. South) and brethren from Wildman Street erected the Gospel Tent in Mandeville. The following nigh was the first service. No one actually knew what the response would be on the opening night. The Sunday night arrived and over one hundred people gathered under the Tent for service. As the service progressed, and the altar call was given, fourteen came forward to pray. What a glorious start.
The church had come to Mandeville. Since that first service, God has steadily blessed and poured out His spirit. Not only have people been baptized and souls filled with the spirit, but these Christians are living a life which is a testimony to all in the city. It is marvelous to see the change which the Holy Ghost can make in a life.
